If you liked the Roman Numeral Converter, you might be also interested to learn how to write numbers in roman numerals and also how to read roman numerals. You can try doing so by following the tips below:

First take note of the fact that roman numerals are written by using by letters from the alphabet:

I=1

V=5

X=10

L=50

C=100

D=500

M=1000

There are 4 intrinsic rules of reading and writing roman numerals

1. A letter repeats its worth or value that many times (III= 3, XX= 20, C = 100, etc.). A letter can only be repeated up to three times consecutively.

2. If a letter or more of lower value is placed after a letter of greater value, add the value of the lower value letter or letters to the one with the higher value.

VII = 6 (5 + 2 = 7)

LXXX = 70 (50 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 80)

MC = 1100 (1000 + 100 = 1100)

3. If a letter of lower value is placed before a letter of greater value, subtract that amount.

IV = 4 (5 – 1 = 4)

XC = 90 (100 – 10 = 90)

There are several rules applicable for subtracting values or amounts from a roman numeral:

a. Only powers of ten can be subtracted or deducted (C, X, or I, but not L or V)

For 45, do NOT write it as VL (50 – 5).

DO write it as XLV (XL + V or 40 + 5)

b. Only one roman number can be subtracted from another roman number.

For 8, do NOT write it as IIX (10 – 1 – 1 = 8).

DO write it as VIII (V + I + I + I or 5 + 3 = 8)

c. Do not subtract a roman number from one roman number that is more than 10 times greater it’s value (you can subtract 1 from 10 [IX] but not 1 from 20)

For 99, do NOT write it as IC (C – I or 100 – 1 = 99).

DO write it as XCIX (XC + IX or 90 + 9)

4. A bar which is on top of a letter or a string of letters increases the number’s value by a thousand times or 1,000 times.

  18. Humana People to People is a global network of aid
    agencies from more than 40 countries on five continents.
    Forged during the upheaval engendered by the system of Apartheid in South Africa in the
    1970s, Humana recognized that the end of colonialism and Apartheid in 1994
    was not the end of suffering. While they had assisted in winning the fight for equality in South Africa, there were communities in need across the globe.
    The obvious continuation of their program to help people in South Africa was to
    extend this aid to the rest of the world. Thus, Humana People
    to People was born from the struggle for basic human rights for all people.

    To call Humana People to People an aid agency is to oversimplify its core guiding principles and its aim when it enters communities.
    Rather than simply offering aid in the way that one might cover a wound with a bandage,
    Humana seeks to transform whole communities, giving them
    tools that will enable them to solve their current problems and guard against issues that might arise in the future.
    This is a “top down” approach that maintains the only way to
    aid both people and communities is to fundamentally change the core elements that keep them from succeedi\
